All materials come from sustainable and natural sources, which is the concept that Gecko Shoe Care was based on as a whole. To protect nature further, where ever possible we ship with carbon neutral companies and use biodegradable and compostable packaging.
The Solution has been thoroughly tested on all materials over an extensive time with no problems. We do recommend you test the product on a small unseen area prior to cleaning your whole shoes as we have not tested it on every shoe ever created. This will give you more peace of mind.
No. We have never found it to cause any discolouration on any materials. We advise you dry the shoes in direct sun light, but do not let them sit in it for a prolonged time, just until the shoes are dry. This brings out the whites whiter, nature wins again.
The Solution is made with a soap base, the soap is derived from coconut and olive oils which go through saponification using lye. Lye is made by boiling wood ashes and is the only product used in The Solution not technically classed as natural, but all of the lye is used in the chemical reaction (saponification) to transform the oils into the soap. There is no other way to make a soap as most, if not all soap manufacturers will tell you. From here we add only natural ingredients to make up The Solution, finally mixing in cold pressed lemon oil which gives it a citrus scent whilst adding to the cleaning power.
Everything produced by Gecko Shoe Care is vegan and cruelty free. You will not find any animal fats in The Solution or any form of animal hair in our premium brush bristles. They are not required.
Steps have been taken across every product sold to leave the smallest footprint possible on the environment. Everything produced is biodegradable with the aluminium bottle taking the longest, but we recommend you try to repurpose this, if not recycle.
After extensive research we decided an aluminum bottle had the smallest impact on our planet when compared to all other options. To further better ourselves we are currently looking into the possibility of reusing the bottles by either offering refilling and/or refill pouches.
It can be used as much or as little as you like. At Gecko Shoe Care HQ we prefer many small cleans rather than waiting until shoes become overly soiled. This can be in the form of just using the solution directly with the towel to keep up the fresh look.
If fresh from The Set you find The Towel to be leaving lint on your trainers we recommend washing The Towel, this will remove the excess lint left from the manufacturing process. Please wash on a gentle cycle using mild detergent. No softener is required for bamboo fiber.
As we use only natural products there are slight variations from piece to piece. We think this is what makes every product unique and different and is not only something we can put up with but something we love about using natural products.
Your purchase will be packaged in an eco-friendly satchel, this could be in the form of paper packaging or a compostable alternative, also derived from plants. If fillers are required inside the satchel we will only use recyclable materials such as cardboard. There will be no foam, packing peanuts or plastic tape used, as these are detrimental to the environment.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) The Solution comes in 200ml bottles so it cannot be taken in hand luggage on flights. We send it in the larger bottles so less reorders are required, we believe this is the best option for the environment.
